Website Update

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Just a quick note to let everyone know that the website has been updated. SHIRTLIFTER #3 is now listed in the comics section, with a link to an extended preview and buttons which allow you to order from  Amazon (pre-ordering, anyway - it will be shipping from them at the end of the month) and from me. This issue features material from myself, Justin Hall and Fuzzbelly. It’s 88 pages, 2 color, and is $13 shipping included,  or $15 with a card of your choice. $20 gets you issues #2, #3 and a card, shipping included.

I’ve also updated the card and prints section, there is a lot of new material there (you can see a few examples at the top and bottom of the blog). You might want to take advantage of the Pre-Xmas special: Cards are now 3 for $10 (+$1.50 shipping) or 5 for $15 (shipping included).

Gay? No Way.

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

The day that I wake up to discover that Prop 8 (banning gay marriage) has passed in my adoptive home of California is also the day that I  get my Diamond purchase order for SHIRTLIFTER #3, which, despite some targeted outreach, has come in with even lower orders than the last one. Gay comics are just an impossible to sell outside of a few blessed oases. Some days I’m not sure why I even bother.

Ex Communication

The second volume of The Book of Boy Trouble is now available through Green Candy Press. I drew a 5 page story for the book that was written by my husband Todd, his very first comics story, a quite effective variation on “he said/he said” that incorporates some interesting experiments with form. There was a lot of back and forth on this one, a real collaboration, and not only did we come up with a piece we both liked, but we didn’t kill each other, either. Since I can be as defensive as a dog with a bone when it comes to my comics, that’s a significant achievement all by itself.

I can’t put the whole story up until the book’s been out for a while, but I can post the first page to give you a taste of what it’s about. Click on the above image to see a larger, readable version over on my Flickr account.

The book is available at fine booksellers or through Amazon.

Wonder Woman Day

Wonder Woman Day
My contribution to next weekend’s thir annual Wonder Woman Day, a benefit to raise funds for domestic violence shelters around the country.

It’s a mixed media piece - the underdrawing and color I did digitally as usual, then finished the blacks with brush and pen. so that it’s an original, one of a kind drawing.

Info on the event can be found at the Wonder Woman Museum website

SHIRTLIFTER 3 COVER

Shirtlifter 3 Cover

Cover to the new issue of SHIRTLIFTER, which is at the printers right now. It features the radically revised and expanded first three chapters (60 pages) of my graphic novel in progress “Unpacking”, which ran on (the now defunct) adultwebcomics.com site over the past two years. It also features great contributions from Justin Hall and Fuzzbelly. It’ll debut at APE in San Francisco on November 1 -2,  and be available in bookstores and comics shops in December

Gay For Pay

Gay For Pay
A severely cropped version of an illustration that appears in the new (November) issue of Unzipped. They don’t want the image floating around until the issue’s well off the stands, so to see the whole thing you’ll have to take a peek inside to see what’s actually going on off to the right. But since the article’s called “Gay For Pay” you can probably figure that out….

SHIRTLIFTER @ MODERN TALES

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Image from

Today my online webcomic SHIRTLIFTER will begin over at Modern Tales. My previous webcomic, ROUGHS, wrapped up a couple weeks ago over at Adultwebcomics.com.

Modern Tales editor Shaenon Garrity interviewed me last week about the strip, my work in general, and the reasons for the move. You can read the interview on the  Talk About Comics blog.

The strip will update Monday/Wednesday/Friday.

The archives at Adultwebcomics will stay up for the next month or so, but will then be taken down, as most of that content will be soon available in the next issue of SHIRTLIFTER.

HARD TO SWALLOW #4

HARD TO SWALLOW #4 - FRONT

My friends Dave Davenport and Justin Hall are back with the fourth issue of Hard To Swallow #4, debuting this weekend at the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco.
The release party will be held at the Isotope Comics Lounge at 326 Fell St. (@ Gough) from 7-11pm on Friday, September 26th. If you can’t make that event, then come on down to the Folsom Street Fair, where they will be selling Hard To Swallow #4 at Folsom’s Artists’ Alley.

I’ll be on hand for both events. SHIRTLIFTER will be available on Friday night, while at the fair I’ll have t-shirts, comics, cards and prints.

This might be the best issue yet. Justin and Dave both continue to do nothing but improve as cartoonists, and the guest this issue is  Brad Rader, who’s a pretty amazing draughtsman. Looking forward to getting my copy at Folsom.
