There's been a few reviews and press coverage for both the STICKY hardcover and SHIRTLIFTER. Here's a round up:

May 7, 2006

I've added a few more prints and cards to the store section. There'll be more additions in the next month or so, so keep checking back.

May 1, 2006

STICKY hardcover is officially out. The book really looks great -- it's on good paper, and the color reproduction is wonderful. The book is in gay bokstores around the country, or online from a number of distributors, including Amazon.com, TLA Video, 10percent.com, Powell's Books, and A Different Light.

April 2, 2006

There will be a book release party for both the STICKY hardcover and my new comic SHIRTLIFTER at A Different Light in Los Angeles. The event will happen on Friday, May 12 @ 7:30 PM. Copies of both books will be available for purchase, as well as cards, etc. There will also be wine, cheese, autographing, and conversation of dubious worth.

April 1, 2006

Reminder that I will be in San Francisco this weekend (April 8 - 9) to attend the Alternative Press Expo. I will be debuting my new comic book SHIRTLIFTER then. On the Saturday I will be taking part in a panel about queer cartoonists from 12:00 - 1:00 PM. The rest of the time I will be at Booth 341 - 343 selling comics, prints and cards.

March 26, 2006

Finally got around to adding a store. You can buy copies of my new book SHIRTLIFTER, as well as cards and prints, using Paypal's secure checkout.

March 25, 2006

I've had a few requests for portrait work recently, so I've added a portrait section to the website here. If you're interested in having me draw you, check out the link and the instructions.

March 13, 2006

Shipped off the first issue of my new comic book SHIRTLIFTER to the printer earlier this week. It will be making its debut at the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco from April 8 - 9.. Currently in the solicitation process for Diamond Comics, so if its accepted it won't be available in most comics shops until July. If you don't want to wait, or you don't have accesss to a shop that's likely to carry this, you can get a copy directly from me for $5.00 postpaid -- Email me at steve@stevemacisaac.com. There's a preview of the first five pages here.

March 2, 2006

Bruno Gmuender's collection of STICKY is now available in Europe. 80 pages, full color printing, hardcover. It looks really, really good. I don't much like looking at my stuff after it's printed, and even I think it looks good -- high resolution, accurate color, a handsome design. There's some previews of g-rated pages in the comics section here, as usual. If you want to see some more erotic stuff, you need to sign up for my yahoo group at the following link: http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/shirtlifters

North American preorders currently being taken via amazon.com - currently at 35% off cover.

January 21, 2006

A story that I completed earlier this year has finally been published. TURNOVER is a comics anthology published by AIDS Project Los Angeles, and is focused on issues surrounding HIV prevention. I have a six page piece in the anthology called "Safe". The complete story is available for download at APLA's website -- just follow this link (Warning -- it is pretty large. And contains some explicit content). There is also a link for contacting the APLA if you would like a hard copy of the publication: it is not available for commerical sale, but may be available at your local Gay and Lesbian Health organization.

The STICKYNOTES Yahoo Group was deleted for reasons that are far too complex to get into. I've just started a replacement group called SHIRTLIFTERS which will keep you appraised of anything to do with my work, both for STICKY and my solo work. It's mostly a mailing list, though there'll be some preview images up as well -- nothing too intrusive, usually one email every couple of months. If you're interested, please sign up using the button below:

Well, it's been official for a while now, but might as well make the annoucement here. STICKY will be collected into a hardcover from German publishers Bruno Gmuender Verlag in March 2006. The hardcover will be slightly larger and on better paper than the individual comics were, and will also contain 4 pages of new art that serve as bridges between the three stories. Cover preview and pre-order is now available through Amazon.com.

October 28, 2005

Been flattened with the flu all weekend, and took advantage of the fact that I couldn't really leave my house to overhaul the website design. Needed to do this for a long time, so glad that finally was able to clean it up a bit. Added a section for purchasing prints: I recently invested in a large format, archival printer to prepare some work for the recent Tom of Finland erotic art exhibition, and was pretty happy with the results. For some samples, check out the "Erotic Art" section for a sample of the prints available. More will be going up in the next few weeks. I'm also more than willing to do commissions, or larger format prints of ANY of my comics pages. Email me for details: steve@stevemacisaac.com.

Some more things will be added by and by -- there will be more frequent updates than there has been of late. I will be putting up a preview of some pages of SHIRTLIFTER #1 in the next couple of months.e se

September 28, 2005

God, haven't updated this for a while now -- gomenasai.

STICKY #3 is out and will be the last one for the foreseeable future. Sales just weren't very good in pamphlet form. Currently talking about releasing 1 - 3 released as a book ,and thus available in gay bookstores where people interested in gay porn would be able to find it.

Not abandoning serial comics yet though. I have been working on the first issue of a solo title, which would collect old material alongside a longer, serialised story (No, not the one that I started and abandoned on this site last year. That's staying dead for the foreseeable future. mercy killing). The comic is going to be called SHIRTLIFTER, and was just chosen as the recipient of Prism Comics' first Queer Press Grant to get the first issue off the presses -- look for it to be available in January.

June 23, 2005

STICKY #3 should likely be available in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I've put up a couple of pages from Issue #3 here. You can still see preview of issues 1 and 2 here and here.

#3 is the last one we're contracted to do -- there'll likely be more at some point in the future, as long as sales warrant, but taking a little bit of a break for at least a few months to concentrate on other things.

June 2, 2005

The artwork for STICKY #3 has been finished and sent off, so should be out soon soon soon. It's going to be the last one for a bit -- if Eros is interested in more we'll probably continue, but sort of have to see how this first trilogy does before making any commitments. In the meantime, I'm going back to working on some of my own stuff, and changing continents -- leaving Japan after 3 and a half years living in Tokyo. I have a story coming out in an anthology about gay men's health that is being produced by AIDS Project Los Angeles. I'm also working on updating a few older, unpublished pieces for a couple different anthologies, as well as starting work on a longer piece. I'll post details as things get confirmed.

May 3, 2005

Finally not only an update, but yes--a domain of my very own. I've just been putting it off because I'm lazy and web stuff hasn't been a priority lately. But since STICKY started coming out it sort of seemed like an opportune time, so...here we are at www.stevemacisaac.com. I'm going to redesign it once I finalise all the files for STICKY #3, which is solicited for June.

#2 came out in March. Although it isn't up on the Eros website for some reason, you can also order from their toll-free number at 1-800-657-1100. Other online places that carry us include Last Gasp and Atomic Books.

There's some more for number 1 that I am going to track down and put up here -- eventually I'll get everything on a links page.

OK, back to drawing.

January 3, 2005

Update on the front page -- yes, STICKY #1 came out in December, and is finally available for purchase. Number 2 is almost done as well. Look for it in March, with #3 coming out in May or June. We're contracted to do three issues, won't be any more than that if wedon't sell any, so if anyone likes my work at all I encourage you to check it out. Available through your local comics shop, or from Eros Comics in Seattle Washington. No image or information is yet up on the website, but if you do a "search" for STICKY, we're the only thing that comes up. You can also order from their toll-free number at 1-800-657-1100.

November 1, 2004

OK, I am a fucking liar. I'm taking down First Draft, because I just re-read it and it makes me want to kill myself and everyone around me, so let's just ease off the pressure, and remove it until such time as I can give it the rich evisceration and reassembly that it needs. I do think there's something worthwhile in there, but I don't have time to deal with it at the moment.

And why don't I have time is because, as mentioned below, I have a series of erotic shorts coming out from Eros Comics starting in January. The book is called STICKY, and while the first one is done there's revisions to be made to the second one and the third is still in pieces all over my living room carpet....There's a preview up of issue one here, some non-naughty bits--you can get it through mail order starting January or from your local comics shop. They generally don't do gay stuff so it would be cool if people actually bought a few copies of this, but I have a vested interest so don't take my word for it.

October 10, 2004

I know, I know -- I said a month. What can I do? Life fucks you up, but at least in this case it's in good ways. The next installment is almost done, and has been almost done for a while, but I've gotten real busy -- I'm back at work in Tokyo at my real job, and when I'm not working there I'm working on a couple of pieces with deadlines, so they take priority. Plus, Eros Comics is picking up STICKY, my and foray into erotica with Dale Lazarov, starting this winter, and getting that ready has and is taking up a not insubstantial chunk of time. So there will be another installment up, but I can't promise when -- I'm hoping for next month, but it may have to wait until the new year. Not that anyone's waiting with baited breath, I'm sure, but in any case...thereyouhaveit.

July 5, 2004

Finally another update for the First Draft-- these two pages have been almost done for a while now, but I've been having some strange glitches with the new version of some of the software I use, which has wasted a lot of the limited time I've had to put into this. So these two pages are rougher than I'd like at this point, but are more or less legible. This whole first section is gonna get revised at some point anyway -- it's too bloody talky and static -- so I'm not going to worry about it too much. Just bear with me. Next installment won't be up for another month, probably, but will be a little longer -- 5 pages or so.

June 8, 2004

OK, the next two pages took longer than I thought -- putting my life into little boxes took more time than I had planned it too. Also got complicated on this end by my new computer -- after years of Windows servitude, I just bought a Mac laptop, since I will have no fixed address for the next six months at least. However, getting my new system set up the same as my old system has taken a bit of tweaking -- particulalry the font I created that approximates my handwriting, which didn't seem to want to show up in Illustrator. Got things straightened away by converting it from a TTF to Type 1, but that took a little bit of doing. Anyway, things are finally more or less normal and the next two pages of the First Draft are done. You can start at the beginning again, or just view the new parts by clicking here

Also noticed on the new machine that the text on the comics index is muy fucked up. It looks fine on other machines I've tried it on, but is in all the wrong places on my new system. Don't know if it's been a problem for anyone else, but I'll try and get it smoothed out in the next couple of days.

May 23, 2004

I'm going to try and get the next two pages of First Draft up this week, before I leave Japan. They're almost done, but with me "almost" can still takea long time, as one revison leads to another leads to another etc etc. I'm in the middle of packing and getting my stuff in storage, because I'm leaving Japan for the summer, so if it doesn't happen in the next five days, it probably won't get up until June 5 or so, after I de-jetlag.

In the meantime, I've stuck up the first couple of pages from an erotic short story called Hold On, just because it'll be a while before it sees print, since I am Our-Lady-Of-Perpetual-Dissatisfaction. Even though I still don't think it's ready, I'm sick of sitting on it, so here's a sneak peak.

May 14, 2004

OK, first three pages of First Draft are up and running -- two more will be added in a couple weeks, which finishes off the first beat of the story. I'll be posting in two or three page increments for the foreseeable future -- going to be travelling around a lot this summer, so I don't know how that's going to affect my productivity -- probably it won't have any more adverse effect than working full time does...

Any feedback or comments welcomed, of course: flambe@chebucto.ns.ca. Please put something in the message subject related to the site or you're gonna get spam killed: currently I'm getting approximately 50 emails a day, all telling me that my penis is too small and that I am desperately in need of Viagra. As if I'm not insecure enough already....

May 2, 2004

This site has needed an overhaul and a redesign for a while, but it's been kind of low on the list of priorities. Whatever energy hasn't been taken up by my dayjob has been going into finishing up a comics erotica project that I am hopefully going to make some kind of announcement about in the next few months. Add to that trying to make time for an actual life, and presto -- instant cobwebs.

That is going to be changing soon, as I'm starting a new project -- a long story that I'm going to be serialising on the site for the foreseeable future. I've been thinking about doing a long piece for for a while, but I never seem to be able to get the time together to do it -- I tend to work really slowly, so the time commitment required to do anything of substantial length has always been a little daunting. However, when thinking about it again recently, I realised that it would work well as a series of short vignettes that, taken together, will build into somehing bigger. That's the idea, at any rate-- and it will likely happen, since it's less intimidating if I take it 4 - 5 pages at a time. It'll likely be easier to read this way, as well. The first installment is going up next week, and I'm hoping to post a new vignette every month or so. I was tempted to post each page as it's finished, but I don't think it would read very well that way -- better less frequent updates, but with larger chunks of story.

I'm calling this sequence of strips "First Draft", because that's eseentially what it is -- It's going to need further revisions before it becomes a coherent, finished piece. I've never done any comics this long before, so while it's pretty planned out, part of this process is seeing in what direction the strip and characters lead me, and letting myself take avenues that may wind up as dead ends, just to see where they lead.

So check back regularly, and if you like what you're seeing or have any criticism, constructive or otherwise, drop me a line at: flambe@chebucto.ns.ca
